MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM
by August Wilson directed by Ron OJ Parson
January 18 - February 13, 2011
in the Pamela Brown Auditorium

Complete Performance Calendar
A searing drama that pulses with the Blues.
The legendary Ma Rainey and her band make music and
deals in a 1927 Chicago recording studio as they contend
with thwarted ambitions, the demands of their producers,
and the stifling realities of a racist culture. Inspired by
real-life Mother of the Blues Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, this
groundbreaking work is part of Wilson's Tony Awardwinning
Century Cycle, a series of plays that explores African
American life in the 20th Century.
